WMG is offering five of our in-depth lectures from our Santa Barbara Water Harvesting Certification course to the public (August 19th-28th)! Water Harvesting Certification
Program Overview
The WMG Water Harvesting Certification program is a hands-on training course that provides certification in water harvesting system design and implementation. WMG's goal is to transfer water harvesting knowledge to those who will utilize these practices in their professions and teach them to others. Our program provides the highest quality and greatest depth of training in integrative water harvesting offered in the nation.
The course teaches design, implementation, and installation of:
- Greywater systems
- Water harvesting earthworks
- Steel cisterns
- Plastic cisterns
Upcoming Course Schedule
WMG is pleased to offer courses in both Arizona and California. All courses listed below are open for application, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the course is full.
The course fee is $1,050 for applicants whose materials are received by the early application deadline for each session, and $1,200 thereafter. To apply for one of the following sessions, download the course application here.

Watershed Technical Trainings
Program Overview
WMG's Watershed Technical Trainings (WTT) build knowledge and skills in topics such as green infrastructure, water harvesting, eco-sanitation, and watershed restoration. The WTT program is designed for professionals, educators, and community activists. Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 courses are scheduled as follows:
- Stream Restoration: October 6-8, 2011: Application Deadline Extended to September 9! Course Announcement & Application
- Eco-Sanitation: December 8-10, 2011
- Advanced Cisterns: January 2012
- Advanced Greywater: February 2012
- Green Infrastructure: March 2012
Several of these trainings build upon concepts taught in WMG's Water Harvesting Certification course, which is recommended as a pre-requisite for all trainings. Similar professional experience may also be considered as a pre-requisite.
Upcoming Trainings
1. Watershed Technical Training in Stream Restoration, October 6-8. 2011, in Tucson, AZ: Course Announcement & Application (Click here for pdf version.)
Join expert instructors Van Clothier and Craig Sponhotlz for a Watershed Technical Training in Stream Restoration will provide participants with a basic understanding of how desert streams and arroyos function, how they change over time, and the human influence on them, both positive and negative. Based on this foundation, students will then participate in hands-on sessions in site assessment, design, and implementation of small-scale restoration features. Emphasis will also be placed on urban wash restoration approaches and practices from backyard to larger drainage scales.
The course curriculum includes:
- Classroom lectures
- Site assessment, surveying, design, and planning sessions
- Hands-on restoration workshops
- Tour of local restoration sites

Application Deadlines & Course Fees
To qualify for the early registration fee of $400 ($350 for alumni*), course application must be emailed or postmarked by August 1, 2011.
To qualify for the regular registration fee of $500 ($450 for alumni*), course application must be emailed or postmarked by September 9, 2011.
*Alumni rates are available to previous participants in WMG’s Water Harvesting Certification course or Watershed Technical Trainings.
Limited scholarships up to $150 are available – see course announcement for further details.
