Green Streets Bike Tour Will Showcase Tucson's Green Infrastructure -- Just in time for Earth Day, Tucson residents will be able to take to the streets to visit green infrastructure projects around the city. Watershed Management Group, a local non-profit organization, is offering guided bike tours of community demonstration sites in Central Tucson. WMG guides and guest speakers will inform tour participants about neighborhood green streets projects, rainwater harvesting technologies, riparian restoration, and capturing solar energy.
Watershed Management Group's Green Streets Bike Tour will take place during Tucson's first annual Cyclovia event on April 18, which will temporarily close several city streets to traffic to allow cyclists, walkers and joggers to enjoy biking, walking, and other forms of natural movement as safe, healthy, and environmentally-friendly methods of transportation.
The Green Streets Bike Tour will cover a two-hour route throughout Central Tucson, including the University of Arizona, Rincon Heights Neighborhood, and the Ward III and VI City Council Offices. A slower-paced tours will leave at 10 a.m., and a faster-paced tour will begin at 11am.
Watershed Management Group is hosting this tour as part of its series of Earth Month events throughout April in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Other Earth Month events will include a block party featuring live music and catered organic, local food; a family street painting event to create a environmental mural; workshops to build water harvesting systems; and a bartering bazaar in which participants can trade home-grown produce and services without the exchange of money.
