India Program
Watershed Management Group has opened its doors near Panchgani, Maharashtra in western India where we've partnered with a local organization, Grampari, to provide health and environment services to rural communities. Grampari conducts livelihood and local governance programs such as skills development and entrepreneurship training. WMG and Grampari are jointly developing several programs including sanitation & hygiene and community-based watershed management. One of the highlights so far- the School Handwashing with Soap Promotion Program which reached 400 school children in its first month. Over 1000 children die every day in India from diarrhea- more than 400 of these deaths can be prevented by handwashing with soap. This is a high-impact, low-cost intervention that seeks to impact those that are most vulnerable.
